Happiness is…

I’ve been running this phrase through my head a lot lately. It’s the perfect time of year for thoughts to get completely jumbled as we are stressing about getting work done, making sure things are together when guests arrive, making sure we have the perfect gift for every person on our list, and making sure we don’t run out of money while getting those gifts all while trying to remember the “reason for the season.” In the hustle-bustle, it’s easy to forget what happiness is.

I’ve come up with a few thoughts on this one. First and foremost, happiness is doing what you enjoy doing and realizing sometimes it doesn’t go the way you planned for it to go, but if you stick with it, everything will work out in the end. I have one more jewelry show scheduled this winter, it’s the first weekend (Thursday, Friday, and Saturday) in December. The kicker is I have to set up for it a week before. This wouldn’t be an issue except for the fact that here it is 4 days before set up time and I realized this evening how little jewelry I have left. This is bittersweet. I’m thrilled that I have nearly sold out of most of the necklaces and bracelets (and sold a lot of earrings) that I started the year with and made throughout the year, but I’m also wondering if it’s going to make my stand look bare come next weekend. At the end of last year, I was wondering if I should continue with the jewelry, now I’m looking forward to seeing what shows I can get into next year and how much I can grow the business.

Happiness is also being grateful for every little thing. I wasn’t so sure as to what Maggie thought about being woken up early and spending all day in the heat, cold, rain, etc. for jewelry shows (talk about true sibling love!). Last weekend, she was insistent on learning to write the receipts and she wants to eventually learn the credit card machine. It makes me so happy to know she wants to be a part of my little dream.

All that said, happiness is also a good night’s rest and that’s where I’m headed. On your way to bed tonight, think about what happiness is to you. If nothing else, they say going to bed in a positive and happy mood helps you sleep better. Thanks for reading!
